What makes Us Whole: Body, Mind and Spirit

We are made up of three elements: body, mind and spirit. All three must work together in order for us to be in balance and live happy, productive and creative lives. One way to judge a society is to look at how they nurture all three in the raising their young. At this point we have to ask how are we doing?

For our bodies we all know the basics: nutrition, hydration, exercise and rest. We are told to schedule annual physicals and get vaccinated. Never in the history of the world have we had more information and medical science to assist us in the care of our physical bodies.Yet we never question should we get those vaccination or are we being told the truth. We blindly believe in what we are told and our world as a whole is the least nourished and the most unhealthiest it has been in decades.

On an intellectual level, we send our young to schools to have access to more data and information than at any other point in history. Yet our intellect is dropping. When it comes to mental health, we’ve made tremendous progress though, we have a ways to go. Discussion of mental health has emerged from out of the closets and is much more a part of our society’s conversation. We have learned a great deal about brain chemistry, depression, and anxiety. Seeking therapy no longer carries the stigma of shame that it once did. However doctors provide medication instead of healthy alternatives that could easily solve the problem.

Where did we come from? Where are we going? What is our purpose? What is the meaning of life? We all contemplate these questions. At its best, religion has allowed us to ponder these questions. But as less and less children are being raised hearing that religion is bad, what is taking its place? How are we nurturing the souls of our children?

We need to start questioning all three of these in our lives so maybe we can get back on the right track.
