Brain Cell Growth

The production of new neurons in the hippocampus takes a few simple tricks. With the growth of new brain cells depressive symptoms all but vanish.

The first three are:

1: Fasting. Have breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and the fast for 18 hours.

2: After every hot shower finish off with a cold shower.

3: High intensity interval training. Run as if your life depended on it up a hill, rest. Repeat.

All these things put your brain into shock and it starts to regenerate.

Other factors that encourage neurogenesis include:

  • Learning new skills
  • Exercise
  • Sex
  • Calorie restriction
  • Caffeine
  • Resveratrol (found in red wine)
  • Curcumin (found in turmeric)
  • Diets high in:
    • Blueberries
    • Flavonoids (found in fruits and vegetables and give them their bright colors)
    • Omega 3 fatty acids (found in fatty fish like salmon)
    • Zinc
    • Folic acid

Factors that impair neurogenesis include:

  • Stress
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Alcohol
  • Diets high in:
    • Sugar
    • Saturated fat
  • Vitamin A, B and E deficiency
  • Soft diets
